Bison- The healthier alternative to beef
Bison is a buffalo like animal found in North America and in some parts of Europe. It produces red meat that is healthier and more nutritious compared to that of beef, pork, and others. Bison numbers used to be in the millions, hundreds of years ago but due to poaching and loss of habitat, its population has been reduced. Currently, the numbers have begun to increase again because of breeding efforts and ranching in the United States. Bison meat has been available for years though it was never common as people did not know its health benefits. Lately, the number of people consuming bison have increased significantly. This is due to the increasing knowledge of its nutritional superiority over other kinds of meat. It is preferred over other types of meat like beef because of the higher nutrition value and lower content of fat.
It has better quality meat compared to beef. Bison has lower calories and fat content compared to beef. Bison has more omega-3 fatty acids and higher vitamin B. compared to beef. It is believed that people consuming bison have boosted energy, mood, and possess improved memory. Bison meat contains a high concentration of minerals like potassium, copper, zinc, and iron. Pregnant women are advised to eat bison as its iron helps in the anemic situation.
Bison is also heart-friendly compared to beef. People with vascular issues are advised to take bison as an alternative to red meat. Its low ration of omega -6 to omega-3 helps reduce the risk of obesity and inflammation in the body. Bison also contains less fat and calories making it more heart-friendly compared to beef
Unlike cows and bulls that are always treated and administered with hormones and antibodies and are often bred and grown in confinement, bison are never confined and always graze freely. Administration of antibodies to cows and bulls may make their beef contain chemicals that may not be healthy to the body, bison style of grazing that is free makes it more disease-free to the body than beef. Bison is leaner and drier compared to beef and has higher protein and amino acids compared to beef.
Bison is the healthier alternative to beef for its nutritional value adding value to the for its iron deficiency prevention, support of the immune system, inflammation fights, energizing vitamins among others. I would recommend increased use of bison as compared to beef.
